Hello and welcome! This is the blog page for the NKU English Graduate Students. Hopefully, we can come up with some topics for consideration and discussion -- please, comment away! Some lively debate and discussion could be fun and potentially enriching for all of us during our time here together.
And now, a few preliminary questions: What brings you here? What are your reasons for pursuing this degree? Is it a desire to create more lucrative and fulfilling career opportunities? A pure love of academia and learning? Neither? Both? Three nuns and a pack mule?
Though not all of us are in the Introduction to Graduate Studies course, many are. The topic of "for love or money" arose based upon the faculty panel presentations we've been hearing regarding the nature of pursuing a career as a tenure track professor. For those of you hearing these presentations, how do you find the information? Does it have any influence on your original reasons for pursuing a Masters degree in English? Do you feel inspired? Apprehensive? Disappointed? Exhilarated? Vexed, amazed, or astonished?
I ask (I suppose) one of humanity's great proverbial questions: Why are you here? What is your purpose? Your meaning? Your reasons for all of this challenging work? Are you internally or externally driven? What needs are you meeting by being here? What do you hope to get out of this adventure? What is your motivation in this role?
In curiosity, I await your response(s)……
